Terms of Service
Last updated: 4 April 2026
1. Who we are
Gargoyle (gargoyle.nz) is operated by Shan Ming Yang Limited, a New Zealand limited company ("we", "us", "our"). By using Gargoyle you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
2. What Gargoyle does
Gargoyle reads your Gmail inbox (with your permission) to find receipts and invoices and extract expense data from them. You can then review, edit, and export that data for submission to Hnry or for your own records. Gargoyle is a productivity tool — it does not provide accounting, tax, or legal advice.
3. Eligibility
You must have a valid Google account to use Gargoyle. By signing in you confirm that you are authorised to grant Gargoyle read access to the Google account you connect.
4. Google account access
Gargoyle requests read-only access to your Gmail to search for expense-related emails. We do not send, delete, or modify any emails or other Google data. You can revoke this access at any time via Google Account Permissions. Revoking access will prevent Gargoyle from performing further scans.
5. Acceptable use
You may use Gargoyle for your own personal or business expense management. You must not:
- Use Gargoyle to access Gmail accounts you are not authorised to use.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or disrupt the service.
- Use Gargoyle for any unlawful purpose.
6. Accuracy of extracted data
Expense extraction is automated and may be incomplete or inaccurate. You are responsible for reviewing all extracted expenses before submitting them to Hnry or any tax authority. We make no warranty that extracted amounts, vendors, dates, or GST figures are correct.
7. No warranty
Gargoyle is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that defects will be corrected.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by New Zealand law, Shan Ming Yang Limited will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of Gargoyle, including any errors in extracted expense data submitted to Hnry or tax authorities.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
9. Termination
You may stop using Gargoyle at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms or if we discontinue the service. On termination, your right to use Gargoyle ceases immediately. You may request deletion of your data as described in our Privacy Policy.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page indicates when they were last revised. Continued use of Gargoyle after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
